Notice on the Call for Nominations for the “Award for Cutting-edge and Innovative Technologies in Hydrogen Energy and Fuel Cells”

Hydrogen has been granted significant strategic importance in the energy strategies of many major countries and regions around the world. It is regarded as a key carrier in achieving energy transition goals and is expected to play a crucial role in future global energy systems. Meanwhile, fuel cells, as a vital technological pathway toward achieving net-zero emissions, offer advantages such as zero emissions and high efficiency, positioning them as a key component in the global energy transition.

To further advance the innovation-driven development strategy and promote scientific and technological progress in the field of hydrogen energy and fuel cells, the International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association (IHFCA) has officially established the “Award for Cutting-edge and Innovative Technologies in Hydrogen Energy and Fuel Cells”. This award is an international, comprehensive scientific and technological honor designed to recognize outstanding achievements in the advancement of hydrogen energy and fuel cell technologies. It aims to fully mobilize the enthusiasm and creativity of researchers in the field, stimulate innovation, and promote the high-quality development of hydrogen and fuel cell science and technology.

In accordance with the provisions of relevant laws and regulations, the Award for Cutting-edge and Innovative Technologies in Hydrogen Energy and Fuel Cells adopts a nomination system, which includes both public solicitation and targeted invitation. We hereby invite nominations from relevant organizations in the global hydrogen and fuel cell community. The details are as follows:

I. Award Overview

The Award for Cutting-edge and Innovative Technologies in Hydrogen Energy and Fuel Cells is an international, comprehensive award in the hydrogen and fuel cell sector. It is intended to recognize achievements that have made outstanding contributions to scientific and technological advancement in this field, and to encourage broader participation and innovation from the global scientific and industrial community. The award is established and organized by the International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association (IHFCA), with a dedicated Evaluation Committee overseeing the nomination and review process. The IHFCA Secretariat is responsible for daily operations related to the award.

The award currently focuses on recognition and encouragement, and no monetary prize is associated with it at this time.

II. Eligibility for Nomination

Nominating entities must fall into one of the following categories:

  • Globally recognized research institutions, universities, enterprises, industry associations, and other relevant entities in the fields of hydrogen energy and fuel cells.

III. Nomination Requirements

  • Nominated projects must demonstrate significant technological innovation in the hydrogen or fuel cell sectors and show potential to advance industry development or solve critical technical challenges.

  • Nominating individuals or organizations must submit comprehensive documentation describing the project, including its innovative features, application value, and social impact.

  • Nominated achievements should meet one or more of the following criteria:

    • Breakthroughs in key technologies related to hydrogen production, storage, transportation, or refueling;
    • Technical advances in core fuel cell components, such as catalysts, membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs), or bipolar plates;
    • Promising applications in system integration, vehicle platforms, or application scenarios;
    • Significant contributions to supporting systems, such as standards, safety testing, or intelligent control;
    • Other innovative technologies or engineering applications that have made a notable impact on the hydrogen and fuel cell industry.

Nominating organizations are responsible for ensuring the authenticity and completeness of all submitted materials.

IV. Nomination Methods

Nominating entities must fall into one of the following categories:

  • Public Solicitation: Relevant organizations may download the nomination form from the official IHFCA website, complete it as instructed, and submit it to the designated email address.

  • Targeted Invitation: The IHFCA will issue targeted invitations to select key organizations, inviting them to recommend eligible projects.

V. Nomination Deadline

The deadline for submitting nomination materials is August 11, 2025. Submissions received after the deadline will not be accepted.
