In January 2025, the International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association (IHFCA) became a Category A liaison organization with the approval of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) Technical Committee on Fuel Cells Technologies (TC 105).
The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is the earliest non-governmental international electrotechnical standardization organization in the world, founded in 1906. IEC/TC 105 (Fuel Cells Technologies) is a standardization technical committee under IEC, which focuses on preparing international standards regarding fuel cell (FC) technologies for all FC types and various associated applications. IEC/TC 105 has 20 participating countries and 12 observer member countries so far.
Before then, IEC/TC 105 had only the European Commission, based in Brussels, as the Category A Liaison Organization under the Technical Committee. In January 2025, the International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association was voted by the IEC/TC 105 participating countries to become a Category A Liaison Organization under the Technical Committee.
The participation of International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association will further promote international exchanges and cooperation in the field of hydrogen energy and fuel cell technology, and build a platform for IHFCA members to participate in the international standardization of fuel cell technology. IHFCA will promote the liaison between the IHFCA members (and their countries or regions) and IEC/TC 105, and cultivate international experts in fuel cell standardization technology.
After becoming a Category A liaison organization of the International Organization for Standardization Technical Committee on Hydrogen Technologies (ISO TC197) in January 2023, the International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association IHFCA has become a Category A liaison organization of IEC/TC 105, which marks a new milestone for the association in its participation in the development of international standards. The Association will work closely with the industry, make concerted efforts, effectively participate in the development of international standards, actively promote the standardization process of hydrogen energy and fuel cell industry, reduce the threshold of technology application through standardization and promote the large-scale application of fuel cells in the fields of transportation, energy, etc., and contribute to the transformation of the application of the international technical standards for hydrogen energy and fuel cells and thus help to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality.
Currently, the International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association is calling for standardization needs and proposals for IHFCA Standards for 2025 (view the original article for more information with the URL at the bottom).
