Global Hydrogen Transportation Pathways Analysis:China's Medium‑ and Long‑term Hydrogen Supply–Demand Dynamics and Trade Outlook

The International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Association (IHFCA) presents Global Hydrogen Transportation Pathways Analysis: China’s Medium- and Long-Term Hydrogen Supply–Demand Dynamics and Trade Outlook. The report examines how hydrogen transportation can connect geographically dispersed production and demand, and how infrastructure and international trade may support the development of low-carbon hydrogen markets. Against this backdrop, the report adopts a global perspective while placing China at the center of its analysis, given the country’s pivotal role in the hydrogen economy and the broader implications of its energy transition for international hydrogen transportation and trade.

As the world’s largest hydrogen producer and consumer, China faces a transition from a predominantly fossil-based, locally balanced system toward one increasingly shaped by renewable energy resources and new applications. Using supply–demand scenarios for 2035 and 2060, the report asse

Research on the Application of AI Technology in the Hydrogen Energy Industry

As an important pathway toward deep decarbonization, hydrogen energy is demonstrating significant potential when integrated with artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. AI applications across the entire hydrogen value chain—ranging from efficiency gains and decarbonization in hydrogen production, safety and efficiency optimization in storage and transport, performance enhancement and system optimization in end-use applications, to risk assessment and monitoring in safety management—have already made initial progress.
This report will comprehensively review the current global development status and trends of “AI + hydrogen,” analyze application challenges and breakthroughs, and propose strategic recommendations, including strengthening data infrastructure, formulating standards and policy guidance, promoting cross-disciplinary integration, developing demonstration scenarios, cultivating interdisciplinary innovation talent, and enhancing international cooperation. These measures

Green Hydrogen Economy Insight

The report provides an in-depth analysis of the current development status and future trends of green hydrogen technology, showcasing its role as a key solution in the global clean energy transition. The report comprehensively covers all aspects of the green hydrogen industry chain, from hydrogen production, storage, transportation to widespread applications, with a particular focus on technology innovation, the construction of storage and transportation infrastructure, and the assessment of industrial economics. These studies offer practically guiding references for policymakers, investors, and industry experts, helping to address the core issues

China has periodic development goals for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (HFCV) till 2035.

By 2025, it is required to accelerate the popularization and application of hydrogen energy and fuel cell vehicles. To large SUVs, public services, the bulk application of vehicles will be mainly based on the existing storage, transportation and refueling technology. They will be based on the radiation distance of 150 km to promote hydrogen energy and fuel cell technology appropriately according to local conditions. There will be optimizations of the structural design of fuel cell systems, and accelerate the production of key components industrialization, greatly reduce the cost of fuel cell systems. The number of fuel cell vehicles will reach 50,000 to 100,000.

Roadmap 1.0

In order to implement the "Made in China 2025" goal of being a strong country in automobile manufacturing, more than 500 experts and scholars from enterprises, universities, research institutions and industry organizations worked together for one year in 2015 to complete the core content of the "1+7" roadmap. It included the general report of the Energy-Saving and New Energy Vehicle Technology Roadmap, Energy-Saving Vehicle Technology Roadmap, Fuel Cell Vehicle Technology Roadmap, Intelligent Networked Vehicle Technology Roadmap, Automotive Manufacturing Technology Roadmap, Power Battery Technology Roadmap, Lightweighting Technology Roadmap.
